If you are looking to stay in Monemvasia you probably know a few things about the history…..but here’s a quick summary. The fortress dates back
to 583 by mainlanders fleeing slavic and Avaric invaders. From the the 10th century AD, the town developed into an important trade and maritime centre. The fortress has withstood countless invasions and sieges over the centuries, earning the nickname « Gibraltar of the East ».
Today it is one of the most picturesque places in Greece, and that’s saying something !
There is a road connection from the mainland to the entrance gate of the village with a regular bus service from the downtown to Kastro.
In the medieval village itself, transport is only by foot but guests can arrange for their luggage to be carried to the house by a porter.
